How to Measure for Wave Curtains
The measuring method used for wave curtains is not like that used for other types of curtains as it involves measuring an exact space you want your curtains to cover.
Whether you’re measuring for wave curtains and already have an existing track, or are ordering a complete set of curtains with a track, our step-by-step guide below covers everything you need to know.
How to Measure for Wave Curtains without an Existing Track
If you’re ordering wave curtains with a track, you’ll have to measure the exact area you want them to cover and allow for overlapping on all sides.
1. We recommend measuring the width across your recess, wall to wall and then adding an extra 15cm on at either side to ensure adequate coverage. For example, if your recess is 100cm wide, you would order a width of 130cm.
2. The drop for your curtains is generally down to personal preference but you should start from where you plan on fitting the track (we recommend at least 15cm above the recess) and measure down to where you want the fabric to stop.
3. Take any obstacles like radiators into account and think about how you want the curtains to fall/pool.
How to Measure for Wave Curtains using your Existing Track
If you’ve chosen wave curtains but don’t require a track, you’ll need to measure slightly differently using your existing track/curtains.
1. Start by measuring the width of your existing track from edge to edge. If your track overlaps, ensure you measure both sections A & B and add this together to give us your complete track width.
2. For the drop, simply measure from the top edge of your track down to where you want the curtains to end. If you have existing curtains and wish to replace these, simply measure down to the bottom of the hem.
3. Enter these sizes on your chosen product and select ‘no’ to the track option and we’ll make sure your curtains fit your existing track perfectly.
Things to Note:
Curtains can require up to 3 times more fabric than your actual window or track measurement, this ensures the proper fullness when installed. We make all necessary adjustments and calculate how much extra fabric you require to allow for a generous gather. Please DO NOT make these adjustments yourself.
Curtains that require over 1 width of fabric will require a join. The joins are made to be as invisible as possible as to not detract from the overall look of the curtains. All curtains are lined as standard; however, a blackout or thermal lining significantly helps in hiding these joins.
You should always leave a small amount of space at the bottom of your curtains to prevent them dragging on the floor or windowsill. This could cause fraying or marks on your blinds.
When measuring your drop, please consider any obstacles such as radiators. If your radiator is below your window, you should ideally allow your curtains to fall to the windowsill only if you plan on closing them.
If you would like to order a single curtain rather than a pair, you should still follow the same measuring process. Once you have measured give our customer support team a call on 0333 321 4050.
