How to Measure for Vertical Blinds

How to measure for vertical blinds will differ depending on whether you are fitting them inside or outside of your window recess. Follow our steps below to ensure you achieve a perfect fit and a flawless finish!

If you’re ordering replacement vertical blind slats only, you should follow our guide on How to Measure for Vertical Blind Slats.

How to Measure for Vertical Blinds Inside the Recess

If you want to mount your vertical blinds inside your window recess, you’ll need to take a width and drop measurement.

1. Measure the width wall to wall three times across the window recess. From left to right, measure across the top, middle, and bottom of the blind & note the shortest measurement.

2. Measure the drop of the window by taking three measurements down the length of the window recess. From the top to bottom, measure the drop at the left, centre, and the right & note the shortest measurement.

3. Using the smallest measurement for the width and drop of the window ensures that your blind will fit even if your window measures slightly larger in certain areas.

4. When ordering your blinds, simply select ‘recess’ & we’ll take care of any adjustments/deductions to ensure your blinds fit perfectly within your window recess.

Things to Note for Recess Measuring:

DO NOT make any deductions yourself, we will make all required adjustments to ensure your blind fits perfectly.

How to Measure for Vertical Blinds Outside the Window Recess

If you want to mount your vertical blinds outside the window recess, you’ll need to take a width and drop measurement.

1. Measure the height from the top to the bottom of the window.

2. Measure the width of the window from left to right.

3. When fitting a vertical blind outside the window, we recommend that you add 10cm onto both the width and height to ensure that you have adequate coverage, but you can add more if you prefer.

4. Now that you have calculated your width and drop measurements, enter them and select ‘exact’ on your chosen product for an instant quote.

How to Measure for Vertical Blinds Using an Existing Blind

If you have an existing vertical blind and are looking for a replacement, you can simply measure its width and drop (inclusive of the headrail) and we’ll make one to the same size.

1. For the width, measure across the complete headrail from bracket to bracket.

2. For the drop, measure from the top of the existing headrail down to the bottom of the fabric slats.

3. Once you have the complete measurement, enter this on the product and select exact fitting. You should still select ‘exact’ even if you’re blind will go within the recess of your window to ensure we make no deductions.

4. Your blind will arrive the exact same size as the one within your window currently!

Things to Note:

For vertical blinds, the headrail is included within the drop of the blind therefore the fabric louvres will be shorter than the drop you provide.
